Even though the current Chinese pharmaceutical market is still mainly a generic market, many innovative drugs have been rapidly up-taken by large Chinese hospitals in major cities. Some of highly-priced oncology drugs such as erlotinib and trastuzumab, have made the list of top 20 cancer drugs (by sales) in the last few years.
Annual drug sales in each of cancer, blood diseases, liver diseases, dermatoses, hypertension, diabetes, dementia, and hyperlipidemics passed US $1 billion in 2008.
